This two hour session gives participants an overview of the card processing industry, with a focus on how a card transaction starts out and its downstream processing.  The session will cover topics including

  • Card processing terminology
  • Credit card networks
  • Debit card processing -- Signature, PIN and the significant differences between
  • Authorization and settlement processes
  • Risk mitigation tools -- CVV/CVC, 3D Secure, AVS
  • Introduction to gift cards and stored value cards

A host of rules and regulations exist in thecard networks.  This session will review the major points of these rules and what you need to know to effectively support a card program.  

Additionally,the session will discuss exception processing in the card world: chargebacks, debit adjustments, provisional credit, etc., and how to evaluate whether to charge a transaction back or to simply write it off on your G/L.

This session covers emerging applications in the card industry, from debit card rewards to ACH cards to interchange rate examination and inovations in card acceptance (RFID, mobile, etc.)

Should your institution offer payroll cards?  What stored value debit applications would fit within your mix?  What should your debit strategy look like for 2010 and 2011?  Should you, a merchant, offer a co-branded credit card instead of a plain private label card?
